Active Matter at Revs Institute | Episode 2 "Perfectly Imperfect" | 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ
Welcome to the second episode of Active Matter, our UA-cam series profiling the cars on display at Revs Institute and the people who keep them alive in the world! This in-depth series will give viewers unprecedented access to the behind-the-scenes work at our museum, workshop, and library. With 120 historically significant vehicles to keep in working order, we want to share how our diverse team draws on many different disciplines to preserve the automobile and automotive culture for future generations.
Episode two, “Perfectly Imperfect,” focuses on the 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ that won its class in the 12 Hours of Sebring sixty years ago. Although a works entry, the leadership at Alfa Romeo decided to recruit American drivers alongside Italian teammates. Jim Kaser and Chuck Stoddard, two SCCA legends, were tapped to drive this car. This episode features a new interview with Scott George, the Curator of Collections at Revs Institute, and a never-before-seen archival interview with Jim Kaser. The term “Active Matter,” introduced in the first episode, comes to life on at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, as Gunnar Jeannette puts the GTZ through its paces Brian Redman’s Targa 66.

Take the course I did. Tons of fun and you won’t believe how much you learn. Jim Henry, 03/2024
Thank you for the kind words, Jim! We'll be sure to let the instructors know about what a great time you had!
Thank you for sharing !
We are fortunate to have the people at Revs Institute and its philosophy. One of the most impressive automotive collections anywhere.
Thank you so much for saying so. We appreciate the kind words.
I am so blessed and honored to be a volunteer Docent at the Revs Institute,
Thanks Joe! Our visitors are lucky to have your kindness and guidance.
There's only 2 originals left 😮
To answer your title question? No. My 930 and both my 72 911 T rightside and my 73 Carrera will agree with me.
Very interesting project - is there a link to the entire video after the advertisement?
That was another great event!!
Fantastic episode! Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
strong competition from 904 Porsches
We are all so lucky for the work Revs does❤
Thank you very much for saying so! Our team takes great pride in the content and information we can provide through the Active Matter series.
Nicely done!!!
Really enjoy the way that REV’s documents and shares the projects for our enjoyment and education.
Thank you so much for tuning in! We love sharing the history of these automobiles with our loyal fans.
Wonderful car, great video
Thank you! 👍
Awesome - thank you so much . . .
Welcome 😊 Thank YOU for watching!
Love it! ❤
So good!! ❤️🔥
Thank you!
I agree with another comment that this is definitely not a cars and coffee event! Hearing the Ferrari nearing redline and seeing him speed shift, is not someone who gets their enjoyment from pampering this Stallion!
Looks like a Ferrari Dino, but I guess it's the other way around. Beautiful.
AWESOME to see this car is still driven !! 👏👍☝️💪💪💪
AMAAAZING! 👏👍☝️💪💪💪
Its great to see the C5r, last seen at Lime Rock with John Fitch doing a 360 for show at the bottom of the straight in 2013

Although I am not from that era, being much younger. I feel that modern racing, although equally challenging with its high grip high downforce technology has lost the excitement that was had. An era were two sides of the spectrum could competitively race for a win and were a driver could make a difference! Loved every second of this. Thank you for sharing 🙏
Let's see more of your work first and then we'll give a compliment
Maybe the most beautiful F1 car ever RIP Dan
Awesome car and awesome video!
What is it that allowed the 908 engine to rev so much higher than the other engines Porsche was building at that time? I mean, I’ve heard it was routinely brought up to 12,000 RPM. And I thought valve springs were only good up to a point, no?
Awesome ride along - closest I’ll ever get to riding in one, so much appreciated!
What an amazing car - and video!
My retirement dream job.......
My first new car was a 1970 Fiat 124 Spyder. I looked at the 850. but the 124 had the lines of a Ferrari and I was in love....
Thank you Revs Institute for this and ALL the great things you do. I had the distinct honor of visiting their beautiful facility in Florida a few years ago, specifically to see their Cunningham collection, which I believe is the best in the world.
Thank you for the glowing review! We hope you’ll have the chance to visit again!
Great production! REVS rocks!
Going to really enjoy watching this - chapeau to all involved.
Amazing. David is a genius. He’s also my brother
I love the aluminum late 1940s beetle with the 930 engine. This should be better - more creative and more driveable. I love the humor too- CAD (cardboard aided design).
Brilliant!
Just a Binky copycat.
We love Project Binky and appreciate your feedback. We invite you to watch Episode 2 and let us know if it changes your mind.
@@TheRevsInstitute You could have credited them as the originators of CAD…
I hope that this project reflects well on my OTAS Grand Prix, one of 175 custom built Fiat 850's using a Francis Lombardi designed steel body around a 1970's fiat 850 coupe. The body looks like a cam tailed Pantera, originally imported to Rich Motor Imports as an answer to the Gasoline crisis--a car that looked fast- and was economical too. Of course, using the original Fiat 850 "Failures in Automotive Technology" (FIAT) , the OTAS was not going to win any chassis design strength competitions, nor support more than about 100 HP. Yet doing more with less was Carlo Abarth's success. He modified the tiny coupe to make a giant killer named "The Scorpion". The Italian "Smokey Unik's" (Spelling?) of the era did amazing modifications to the Fiat line. Companies like PBS engineering contributed to the upgrading. This was all "Italian Hot rodding" The Razzofab will be the ultimate extrapolation of dreams never otherwise fully achieved. I am watching. Interesting that most techs here are around my age. They lived this history.
Awesome! I was lucky enough to be involved in one small part of the story. It's great to see the rest of it :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
great use of time, tools, and skills ....old guys rule!
Wow! Just wow.
Doing rad fab work while wearing a button-down dress shirt. 100% class.
Fantastic facility…a must see collection of cars…and a wonderful video! Thank you REVS!
Our pleasure!
This is GREAT! Congrats to the crew!
Thanks so much!
Fantastic
Thank you! Cheers!
Congrats Mr. C
